Making Folding Protein Activity

This folding protein activity was to demonstrate how the polypeptide chain with different amino acid sequences is folded differently due to the orders of the amino acids. The negatively charged polypeptide will be attracted to the positively charged one, and the ones that are hydrophobic will be folded inside, different from the hydrophilic which will be on the outside exposing to the water. For this activity, we use pipe cleaners to represent the polypeptide, the red one as hydrophilic, yellow one was hydrophobic, blue one as negatively charged, and pink one as positively charged.

ESLO: Innovative thinkers by using our own ideas and creativity to create this unique protein.

Making DNA activity

For this activity, we made a model of DNA by using gummy bears and jelly string. The gummy bears repressed the DNA nitrogenous bases, while the long jelly string represented the phosphate and deoxyribose sugar.

ESLO: We use the Strategic learners complete this activity by using creativity and originality to create a unique DNA strand with the same materials like other pairs.

Cells viewing through microscope

In this activity, we went into the lab to observe and identify animal and plant cells by looking at them through a microscope. We've learned about differences and similarities of both cells and trained on how to use the microscope properly, including learning about parts of the microscope to understand it more.

ESLO: Strategic Learners, by using a technology to research and to work with the uses of the microscope to observe the cells.

Notes

We were assigned into groups for a special cell project to do research and model of the cell. My group got Liver cell, which has 4 types, but we had to research about Hepatocyte. We made a Hepatocyte model and a presentation slide. At first, it was very challenging for us, since we've never learned about this before, and the information of hepatocyte was quite hard to find, especially the specialized organelles. We research from different reliable sources including asking the experts. Making the model was also quite hard, because there is so many organelle, and it is a very complex cell. We worked really hard on this project and we helped each other creating this project. The result was that we won the best model for Hepatocyte, and all the hard working pays off.

ESLOs: Innovative thinkers on making the model because we use our creativity and the originality to make a unique Hepatocyte model and Strategic learners on using technology to do research and work about the project. Lastly, Leaders for the future, we built a good teamwork to complete this project, and work through our differences of opinions and accept the group decisions, including evaluate how well we work together and give others peer evolution feed back at the end.

In this lab experiment, we performed an osmosis experiment on potato and jelly by soaking them inside beakers filled with distilled water and concentrated salt solution, which represent the environment, and we left the materials in an empty beaker as the control group. The purpose of this is to see how the osmosis process works and how hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic solution affect the process.

ESLOS: Strategic learners of ELSO can be applied to this work because we use technology to research the Osmosis lab introductions, Innovative thinkers on applying to the experiment result to analyze the lab report, and Leaders for the future on working together as a teamwork and accepting others opinion and group decisions.

Cell membrane notes

Virtual Lab

We did an Enzyme Virtual lab, which is an online lab experiment. The purpose of this lab is to determine the effects of substrate concentration and pH on the initial rate of an enzyme-catalyzed reaction. pH and amount of substrate are independent variable and dependent variable is amount of products. I put the substrate into the tube to see the color of each tube whether it's light or dark color. The conclusion comes to that the higher amount of substrate will increase the amount of product up to the max point and it will work best at 7pH.
ESLOs: Strategic Learners on how to learn without waisting time.
