Poems
We've learned about the poems of William Carlos Williams in this unit. He is a famous poet whose work is closely associated with modernism and imagism. We analyze each poem to understand the meanings. We also write poems and pastiche as well. The main assignment in for this topic was to write a TIQA which is basically a short analysis essay of the poem we read. What we had to analyze were the techniques that Williams used to create his poems and its impacts on readers. For the final assessments, I wrote two TIQA essays on The Red Wheel Barrow and This is Just to Say. I've gained further knowledge about the poem in this quarter. This helps me to improve my analyzing and critical thinking skills. The ESLOs related to this is Innovative Thinker since we apply what we know to analyz the poem.

Things Fall Apart

We were assigned to read a novel called Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. This story chronicles pre-colonial life in the south-eastern part of Nigeria and the arrival of the Europeans during the late nineteenth century. The story focuses on the life of the tribe leader named Okonkwo who had to make decisions based upon the arrivals of Western colonials. This reflects the lives and culture of the Nigerians as well as the Western colonization. The final project was to write a research essay focusing on the story as well as additional research about the topic we chose. My topic was about proselytism that causes the destruction of a culture. Basically, I write about the impact that Christianity has on the Nigerian people such as new traditions and beliefs. From reading this book, I have a new understanding of what happened in Africa during the colonization period. The ELSOs related to this work is Innovative Thinkers by applying what we read in the book to analyze the essay argument.
