Unit 3: Academic Reading

Reading critically is different from the normal reading. Critical reading refers to a careful, active, reflective, analytic reading which has a deeper and more complex engagement with the text. To think read critically, you have to think critically, which are analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating the information and idea of the text, also as forming judgments of how a text works by focusing what it does and means. For example, raising objects to the ideas or evidence in the text. Also as, question and understand the text as well as knowing what is the text implying to the readers.

Unit 4: Research Report

How do you create a reliable research report?

The first thing you should do is to find a reliable source. For me, I used a reliable news website and academic research by the Seismological Society of America and The United States Geological Survey, a scientific agency of the United States government as my references.

In this quarter, we studied and made a research report by using our research, paraphrase and summary skills. My topic was to predict the future San Andreas fault earthquake. I chose to do this topic because I think it is a very interesting topic, and something that could be useful for people in the future.

At first, i thought it was a challenging task, but the more I do it gets easier and easier. I had to go through many websites and sources to gather all the reliable information. My research report contains 3 subtopic; What is San Andreas fault, The Disaster That Will Happen in 2047, and How to Prepare for the Disaster.

Furthermore, we also did a silent short film. My group has 5 members, Me, Mini, Pleum, Pru and Kun. We decided to make a comedy-action movie named 'The Flush' which is about a boy who has diarrhea during the night, he went to the toilet and accidentally pulled into the other world. He has to complete the mission in order to go back to the reality. This was a very exciting project because i've never made a silent film before. We've learned how to work as a team, even thought there are some obstacles but eventually we finish the movie. We are so proud of our project.
